From Informal Economies to Sustainable Formal Economies of Empowerment through Hydrosociality

The informal economy in Morocco is closely linked to environmental challenges, particularly water scarcity and its management, but it is also an economic, social, and political issue. This project is timely, focusing on the intersectionality between the informal sector, sustainable development programmes and the politics of water in Morocco. The project has identified a lack of knowledge regarding the nexus between “hydrosociality” and empowerment, specifically how to bridge the gap to support the transition from the informal to a more sustainable and inclusive formal economy, and whether and how water can act as a catalyst.
