What are these workshops about?

These workshops provide space for students to explore their identity and place as young citizens in a changing world. What do they understand about how change happens? How do they see themselves as part of that change? What does it mean to have agency? How can they be part of building peaceful futures for all?

These and other questions form the focus of participatory hands-on activities inspired by research-led stories of young people in Algeria and Colombia who have found ways to build peace in the shadow of conflict and to express themselves and their agency through active citizenship.

Students will be supported to reflect on how these stories connect to their own lives and their journey towards adulthood. Evidence suggests that young people are concerned about the state of the world around them. This workshop comes from a place of hope and example to explore how more positive futures might be both imagined and realised.

The workshops have been designed by Lifeworlds Learning and are delivered in partnership with PositiveNegatives, Coventry University, and SOAS University of London.

Who are the workshops for?

The workshops are for students aged 15-19 years. They might be especially suited to Citizenship, Politics, Human Geography, and Sociology, but are accessible to all learners of this age.

For practical reasons, workshops are limited to 25 students per session.

How long are the workshops?

The workshops have been designed to last for up to 2 hours. This means we can deliver two workshops in a typical school/college day – one in the AM and one in the PM.

What do we need to run the workshop?

To run the workshop we will require a learning space suitable for the group and access to a screen/projector. Students may require paper (A4 and A3) and pens. We will provide any specialist resources as part of the workshop.

Is there a cost?

There is no cost to you for the workshops. The workshops have been funded by support from Coventry University and SOAS University of London.

We reserve the right to charge schools a cancellation fee if they withdraw from workshops at late notice as costs may have been incurred at this point.
