Majid Adin

Illustrator & Animator

United Kingdom, Iran

Majid Adin is an artist and animator from Iran. He was compelled to leave Iran due to brief imprisonment and political exile caused by his cartoons in his blog, which upset the regime. Majid spent six months in the Calais Jungle, attempting to make his way to Europe. Eventually, he arrived in England in a refrigerated van on April 23rd, 2016, coincidentally marking the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death. Majid’s graphic novel, “Hamid and Shakespeare,” explores the imagined friendship between Hamid, an unknown refugee, and Shakespeare. The book promises a narrative filled with humour, fantasy, drama, and tragedy.

In 2017, Majid won a competition to produce an animation for Elton John’s song “Rocket Man,” drawing inspiration from his experiences as a refugee travelling across continents to find a new home. Now based in London, he works as an animator and artist, and over the past seven years, he has produced more than 18 animated short films. He is also involved in many art and painting exhibitions, including an exhibition the House of Illustration and the Venice Biennale, curated by Ai Wei Wei and produced by the UNHCR. His own photography exhibition has also been featured in involved in three anthology poetry books published by the Good Chance Theatre.
